Satellite TV vs. Cable TV

Why should you choose Satellite TV over Cable?

Satellite TV (whether the Dish Network or DirecTV) is significantly cheaper then cable TV. You can save as much as $30 a month just by using Satellite.

Satellite requires no extensive wiring, no long commitment.

With Satellite TV you get access to some of the best deals around, some of the most exclusive Sports Networks, and the best entertainment packages. Cable doesn't stand a chance when it comes to Satellite.

For several years we have had a choice in how we watch television.  It used to be that cable was not available in all areas so a person had little choice in having a large satellite dish to get TV.  Now technology has made both available and in better scale.  The current satellite dishes are small enough to handle with one hand and you can place them just about anywhere.  The question remains what is the best provider?  The information below will discuss the pros and cons of satellite vs. cable.

Satellite TV is setup to receive a signal from a satellite in the sky and send the signal to a receiver in the house.  The signal is clear, quick, and considered HDTV.  The signal is a digital signal that relays to your television screen without delay.  Unlike cable TV that receives a signal from the company then travels under or above ground with the cable to the box inside your home.  The signal cable TV provides is not as clear because the signal has to travel along the coaxial cable to your TV.

Satellite receives a clear signal from the sky, the only time it travels through coaxial cable is from the receiver to the Television.   This shorter distance increases the quality of the signal received. Also when you consider  weather you will find a person has satellite longer in bad weather than you will cable.  Yes snow and wind can interfere with the signal, but when the cable TV provider is knocked out due to a storm or a line goes down or is cut by equipment you will lose the signal. Comcast is one of the more notable providers of cable TV.  You have to have one of their workers come to your home to set up your cable TV in order to receive a signal.  While you do not need a large receiver just that cable it can take them several days even weeks to have the time to come out to your new home and get you set up.

Satellite TV providers such as DirecTV or Dish Network can sell you the equipment in the store along with the service package you wish to have and then you can go home and set it up yourself.  You have to find a place the satellite will be unobstructed by your home or trees, plug in the receiver, and plug it into the television.  Once you have everything plugged in you will have one person complete the finishing touches on the satellite position while the receiver searches for a signal.  It will tell you whether you need to turn it west, east, north or south depending on the location of the signal.  It is much easier to set up a satellite than wait for the cable company to run a little cable to your home.  Some programs you can receive on your satellite dish our sports.  You can elect to get the sports channels as well as all the movie channels with your service.
